Full-throttle slogans echo across Dispur Last Gate

GUWAHATI: A large number of organizations staged protest at Dispur Last Gate on the second day of the February session of the Assam Legislative Assembly (ALA) on Friday. Most of the organizations are that of teachers who haven't got their posts provincialized in the recent post provincialization and appointment of teachers.

The All Assam Eligible Recognized Upper Primary Hindi Teachers' Association has alleged that in the recent distribution of appointment letters to teachers only a few Hindi teachers were included in blatant violation of the existing rule – appointment of one Hindi teacher in every five or six teachers in upper primary schools. Around 1,200 of the 2,000 Hindi teachers haven't got appointment. They demand immediate provincialization of their posts.

The Sadou Asom Uchcha Prathamik Vidyaloyor Sohokari Shikshak Kalyan Samiti rued the fact that only forty per cent teachers in upper primary schools in the State were provincialized.

The All Assam Eligible Recognized Upper Primary (MEM) Arabic Teachers' Association raised the demand for inclusion of Arabic in upper primary (MEM) schools as a compulsory subject and reappointment of Arabic teachers, who had to lose their jobs recently, as Arabic language teachers.

The All Assam Computer Teachers' Association raised the demand for same salaries as other regular teachers in accordance with the Assam Service (ROP) Rules, besides making computer education compulsory in schools and regularization of their posts.

The All Assam Issue Date Victim U.P. School Teachers' Association has demanded replacement of the "issue dates of all affiliated upper primary schools with effect dates of schools for their provincialization".

The All BTC Minority Students' Union (ABMSU) raised the demand for speeding up of the CBI investigation into the murder of former ABMSU president Lafiqul Islam Ahmed and dispose of the case in a time-bound manner. It has also demanded cancellation of the proposed eviction drive in the BTR.

The All Assam Griha Rakshi Volunteers' Welfare Association has demanded amendment to the Assam Home Guard Act to make it in sync with time and regularize their jobs. They also raised hike in their salaries.

The Sadou Asom Sanbadkarmi Santha has demanded pension for all media workers after retirement, besides security. It has also demanded inclusion of all media workers in Sanbadid Chikitsa Asoni.

The members of Bishnupriya Manipuri Territorial Council Demand Committee, the chief executive member of which (Bidhan Sinha) created a sensation recently by demanding to be the chief minister of Assam for 24 hours only so as to pave the way for the fulfillment of the demands for various ethnic communities of the State, also staged protest. Their demands include ST(P) status for the Bishnupriya Manipuris and inclusion of their language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, the Creation of the Bishnupriya Manipuri Territorial Council in Assam, Tripura and Manipuri etc.
