Gauhati High Court asks IIT-G to expedite expert opinion on tackling erosion

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court has asked the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT-G) to expeditiously provide its expert opinion regarding preventive measures for erosion caused by the river Brahmaputra. The court took this step after it was informed that while the Government is taking necessary steps to resolve the problem, the matter has been also referred to IIT Guwahati for its expert opinion. The court noted that while IIT Guwahati is not a party to the relevant Public Interest Litigation (PIL), the gravity of the matter justified a request for expeditious submission of the desired expert opinion.

The PIL (60/2021) was filed by five persons from the Barpeta district, seeking directives to the State Government for tackling the menace of erosion caused by the river Brahmaputra.
