GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court has asked the State Transport Department to file an affidavit about the issuance of e-challans for violation of traffic rules.
Advocate Abdur Razzaque Bhuyan filed a writ petition (WP-C 441/2023) against the lack of much crucial information in an e-challan issued to him by the Transport Department.
Briefing newsmen after the hearing of the writ petition, Advocate Bhuyan said, "The department issued me an e-challan on the charge of overspeeding. However, the e-challan lacks mandatory information under Rule 167 A of the Central Motor Vehicle (17th Amendment) Rules, 2021 and many other mandates of the Motor Vehicle Act, Rules and Regulations to issue e-challans in case of violation. Since such lapses concern the general public, I feel like filing the writ petition in the High Court."
