Gauhati High Court directs Barun Purkayastha to appear on June 10

Rs 270-crore irrigation scam investigation

GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court (GHC) has directed Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Guwahati Barun Purkayastha to remain present on the next date of listing of the a WP © Suo Moto 1/2019.

The next hearing of the case will take place on June 10. On March 2, then Deputy Commissioner of Police Jayant Singh was handed over the task of investigating the Rs 270-crore scam in the irrigation department. The case (1816/2011) was registered with the Dispur Police Station.

Purkayastha has been directed by the Court to take over the investigation of the case following the transfer of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Guwahati (Crime Branch), Jayant Singh. "Let the entire file be handed over to the incumbent. Let copies of the writ petition and various orders passed by this Court be also handed over to the said person," directed the Court.

Meanwhile, the Court proceedings are being conducted through Video-Conferencing in view of the present scenario so as to maintain social distancing.
