Gauhati High Court issues stay order on eviction of Sadhani Bhawan

GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court has issued a stay order on the eviction of the Sadhani Bhawan on Wednesday.

The Sadhani Bhawan - Chutia Sanaskriti Bikas Kendra was supposed to be evicted by the state government as a part of the ongoing project to clear the wetlands and waterways of the city ahead of the monsoon season.

It is important to note that the plot for the institution was allocated in 1998 and the project was sanctioned under the MP fund of the former Prime Minister and MP from Assam, Dr Manmohan Singh. Subsequent Congress and BJP governments in the state contributed towards its development under various projects.
