STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court has rejected a PIL (Public Interest Litigation) that sought an investigation into the Baghjan oil well blowout and compensation to the affected people. The PIL (34/20) was filed by Nirantan Gohain before the fire broke out at the oil well. Hearing of the PIL on Friday, the bench of the court said that the State government has already constituted a high-level committee to inquire into the blowout of the oil well. It said that the Central government has also formed a similar committee to inquire into the incident. The High Court termed the PIL premature and rejected it. On the demand for payment of compensation to the people affected by the blowout, the High Court said that the loss of property will come under the assessment of the inquiry committee, and as such the demand is premature.
