GUWAHATI: In line with the directives from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Directorate of NSS, New Delhi, the NSS Cell of Gauhati University (GU) organised a special lecture session on cyber security at the Phanidhar Datta Seminar Hall on July 11, 2025. The event was part of a national Cyber Security Internship Course initiative, developed by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, for college and university students, including NSS and NCC volunteers.
The session was coordinated by Dr. Ranjan Kumar Kakati, Director of Students’ Welfare, and GU, who welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of cyber hygiene training. He stated that the initiative aims to equip young citizens with the latest knowledge on cybercrime trends and promote a culture of safe and responsible internet usage. “Educating the youth is key to building a cybercrime-free India,” Dr. Kakati said.
The lecture featured Narendar Dhillon, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), as the resource person. In his address, Dhillon highlighted the growing threat of cybercrime and urged participants to adopt strict safety measures while using the internet, particularly during online financial transactions. He shared several real-life cases of cyber fraud involving prominent individuals to raise awareness about the seriousness of the issue.
The session saw enthusiastic participation from around 150 attendees, including NSS volunteers, students, and faculty members from GU and affiliated colleges. The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session, leaving participants better informed and more vigilant about cyber threats.
