Gauhati University PGSU moves Assam Govt. to exempt students from rent in PGs

GUWAHATI: The Post-Graduate Students Union (PGSU) of Gauhati University (GU), on Wednesday, urged the government to take measures to exempt rent of those students residing in private hostels, PGs or rent houses from the month of April to May.

The PGSU: GU in a press release said that most of the students of the State including GU stay in rent houses and in private hostels and many of them belong to below poverty line. Hence most of the parents are now worried as they are already dealing with financial crisis due to lockdown.

Keeping in view of the situation, the students’ union appealed the government to take steps to exempt the students’ rent for two months. PGSU general secretary Moon Talukdar also urged the government to direct certain rules and regulation for the landlords.
