Geetanagar Police rescues woman, arrests stalker in Guwahati

Geetanagar Police not only rescued a woman from a stalker but also rescued her from that person.

GUWAHATI: Geetanagar Police not only rescued a woman from a stalker but also rescued her from that person. Police sources informed that on October 5, 2021, a woman came running to Geetanagar Police Station and lodged an FIR (First Information Report) stating that one person, named Himadri Baruah had threatened to kill her with a sharp weapon in front of Guwahati Central Mall, Zoo Road, if she doesn't marry him.

As the victim was registering the FIR, the accused person called on her mobile and further threatened to kill her with a sharp weapon if she didn't meet him.

On receiving the information, the OC (Officer in Charge) of Geetanagar PS along with his team immediately rushed to the spot. The Police team apprehended the accused person and also recovered a sharp weapon (dao) from his possession. The entire action happened in a span of 30 minutes from the receipt of information, added Police sources. Earlier, on the same day, the accused person also outraged the modesty of the victim and physically assaulted her in the parking area of Central Mall when she was there with her friend.

A case (412/2021, u/s 447/379/354/325/307/506 IPC) has been registered in this regard at Geetanagar Police Station.

The accused person has been arrested and was produced before the Court.
