GMPSS Called Urgent meeting over New Land Policy in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Disappointed with the State Cabinet’s decision on the New Land Policy, the Guwahati Mati Pattakaran Sangram Samiti (GMPSS) called an urgent meeting on October 27 with the representatives residing in 18 hills in Guwahati.

Secretary of the Samiti Prabinjyoti Kalita said “There are around 65000 indigenous people residing in 18 hills in different parts of Guwahati from ages. Among which, some people are residing before the time of independence. These people have been decrying for a long time to get their right of land. So, in such a situation where people are continuously fighting to get their rights, the cabinet’s decision has made a chaotic situation among them. We urge the government to have a second thought in this matter. Now we are going to discuss on this matter at the head office of GMPSS, where the representatives of all the 18 hills will be there to make decision as to what kind of steps can be taken further to achieve our right.”
