GUWAHATI: The Government Ayurvedic College situated at Jalukbari will step into the 75 years of its glorious presence on December 20, 2022. The college will hold a two-day raising day beginning on December 20. The college was founded on 20th December 1948.
The two-day inaugural ceremony will kick-start on 20th December and a wide range of activities have been planned for the same.
The inaugural ceremony will mark the hoisting of 75 flags by 75 prominent personalities of the state from various fields at 8.30 am in the morning. It will be followed by an open meeting which will be graced by Prof Nani Gopal Mahanta, adviser to the Department of Education, Assam, renowned litterateur and musician Dr Anjan Jyoti Choudhury, Prof (Dr)Arup Kumar Sharma, a renowned scientist of IIT, Guwahati and also a music composer.
The events on 21st December will have a car and bike rally from Latasil Playground to the premises of the college at Jalukbari at around 6 am in the morning. Thereafter, a mega alumni meet will take place at the college campus. In the evening, popular Assamese singers – Deeplina Deka, Babu Baruah, DJ Maroon and Bitu Garg –will enthral the audience.
Initially, the college carried out activities in the present Assam Engineering Institute (AEI) campus in Chandmari and later the college was shifted to its permanent campus at Jalukbari. Even during the initial period, the classes of Gauhati Medical College started from the premises of the Ayurvedic College.
Till now, the college has to its credit for giving birth to around 3,000 Ayurvedic doctors. In 2001, two postgraduate departments were newly added to the college and later in 2014 six other postgraduate departments gave the college a much-needed boost. A sense of profound pride and nostalgia traverses through every member of the Ayurvedic family as the college enters into her glorious 75 years, facing insurmountable hardships, challenges, struggles, and new opportunities to excel as well.
The organizers have pleaded the presence and cooperation from all quarters to make the platinum jubilee celebrations a success.
