Government official following the SI recruitment scam arrested for theft

GUWAHATI: Adding another blot of crimes committed by government officials following the SI (Sub Inspector) recruitment scam, deputy director of Town and Country Planning Assam, North Lakhimpur MD Ali Ashraf has been arrested by Satgaon Police in connection to a theft case.

According to reports, Ashraf allegedly stole a mobile phone from a garment shop at Bagharbari Tiniali here on October 18.

At around 6 pm on October 18, Ali went to the shop and allegedly stole the phone of the owner – Raju Ahmed. The incident was captured on CCTV cameras following which Ahmed went to Ashraf's residence and demanded the phone. Ashraf confessed to the crime and assured Ahmed to return the phone on October 19. However, a worker of Raju Ahmed's shop had to lodge an FIR at the Satgaon Police Station after Ashraf refused to return the phone on the said date. Personnel of the Satgaon Police arrested Ashraf and produced him in the court on Tuesday.
