Grand Theme for Durga Puja Pandal in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The Durga Puja fever has gripped Guwahati even as the Viswakarma Puja is still to go. Puja committees in the city, as usual, are busy bees.

Thematic puja is not new in Assam. The Bishnupur Sarvojanik Puja Committee, which is celebrating 69 years of puja, has the proposed Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir as its chosen theme. Through the budget (Rs 18 lakh) puja expenditure, they want to portray the grandeur of the soon to be created majestic temple. They are also not going to cut cost in security aspects. Besides deployment of volunteers and home guards, they are set to install CCTV cameras, measures for firefighting and a standby doctor round the clock. The Samity is using local artisans and no artisan is hired from Kolkata or other places and almost 960 percent of the construction is complete.
