GUWAHATI: The police have arrested as many as seven people in connection with the recent ‘grenade attack’ on RG Baruah Road in Guwahati. In stark contrast, according to police sources, the investigators are still groping in the dark on the very device that was used by the ULFA in the attack.

Even as the investigators said that it was a grenade attack, that was purely based on their preliminary investigations. However, the very nature of the blast, according to police sources, indicates that the device could have been an IED (improvised explosive device), not a grenade. This theory is backed by the recovery of explosive powder from the Panjbari residence of actress Jahnabi Saikia. The sources further said that grenade is machine-made and it is not easily available. However, an IED can be made locally. Strangely enough, the investigators are yet to send the materials which they recovered from the blast site to the forensic science laboratory for test. What has led to the investigators not to send the collected samples to forensic experts is not known.
