GUWAHATI: To empower youth by providing them entry level skill training in Railway Training Institutes, “Rail Kaushal Vikas Yojana” (RKVY) has been notified on Indian Railways. Under Rail Kaushal Vikas Yojana, Railways impart technical training to unemployed youths in various trades to enhance their employability and entrepreneurship.

Since its launch Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnawo in September, 2021, a total of 1920 candidates have successfully completed their training at different training institutes till December, 2023. In the current financial year till December, 2023, 554 trainees have successfully completed training under RKVY. NF Railway plans to induct more trainees in the last quarter of this financial year.

Six Training Institutes (viz. Supervisors’ Training Centre/New Bongaigaon, Multi-Disciplinary Zonal Training Institute/Alipurduar, Multi-Disciplinary Divisional Training Institute/Katihar, Multi-Disciplinary Divisional Training Institute/Rangiya, Specialized Training Centre/Pandu, Guwahati and Specialized Training Centre/Dibrugarh) have been imparting technical training to the unemployed youths in various trades. The trades include Fitter, Electrician, Welder, Machinist, Mechatronics, AC Mechanic, Concreting, Track Laying and Basics of Information Technology and Signalling & Telecommunication in Indian Railways.

Under this scheme there is no provision for providing employment to the trainees. However, this scheme is a skill development programme for the unemployed youths of India to impart technical training in various trades to enhance their employability and entrepreneurship. The scheme will not only improve the employability of the youth but also upgrade the skills of self-employed and those who are working with contractors through re-skilling and up-skilling and contribute towards Skill India Mission.
