Guwahati: In a major development in the Dakhingaon hit-and-run case that led to the death of 22-year-old engineering student Samiul Haque, Guwahati Police arrested actress Nandini Kashyap in the early hours of Wednesday. The arrest came after the addition of a non-bailable section under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Kashyap was detained by Dispur Police from Saraighat Bridge and taken to the All Women Police Station in Panbazar. After hours of interrogation, she was taken into custody around 1:30 am following the invocation of Section 105 of the BNS.
Earlier, the case had been registered at Dispur Police Station under Case No. 630/25 with bailable sections-115(2), 125(b), and 281 of the BNS. The actress had initially appeared for interrogation and was released on a personal recognizance (PR) bond.
However, after the death of Samiul Haque, the police sought court permission to add non-bailable charges to the case. Upon receiving approval, Kashyap was formally arrested and booked.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Jayanta Sarathi Borah stated that traffic police did not receive any information about the accident on the night it occurred. The following day, Kashyap was summoned for interrogation, served a notice, and allowed to leave on PR bond as the initial charges were all bailable.
Subsequently, after Haque's demise, police filed a prayer before the court seeking to invoke stricter, non-bailable sections. Meanwhile, a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team collected evidence from both vehicles involved in the accident. Actress Nandini Kashyap was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court and sent to two days of police custody. The investigation into the incident is going on.
