Guwahati: The annual Ambubachi Mela, one of the most revered spiritual gatherings in the country, commenced today at 2:57 pm at the historic Kamakhya Temple atop the Nilachal Hills. Deeply rooted in Tantric traditions, the four-day festival was inaugurated by Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass. The festival celebrates the divine feminine power of Goddess Kamakhya and attracts thousands of devotees, ascetics, and spiritual seekers from across India and abroad.

Spanning until June 25, the mela has transformed the temple precincts into a vibrant spiritual hub. In light of the expected massive turnout, temple authorities have introduced a series of guidelines to streamline the experience for pilgrims. Special darshan tickets priced at Rs 501, along with defence personnel entry, will be suspended on June 26 and 27 to manage the surge in visitors. Additionally, devotees must leave their footwear at designated zones before entering the temple complex.

To ensure safety and smooth vehicular movement, the Guwahati Traffic Police have issued a comprehensive traffic advisory. Access to the temple has been restricted, with limited ferry car passes granted to select vehicles and emergency services. Diversions, rerouted public transport, designated parking spaces, and a complete ban on commercial heavy vehicles have also been enforced throughout the duration of the mela.

Authorities have urged visitors to cooperate with security personnel and follow the guidelines strictly to ensure a peaceful and spiritually enriching experience for all.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma appealed to the people not to go to the Kamakhya Temple as Nilachal Hill is landslide prone.
