
Guwahati: In a historic initiative aimed at empowering Assam’s youth with a comprehensive understanding of legislative procedures and parliamentary functioning, the Assam Legislative Assembly organized the Youth Immersion 2025 programme today at the Srimanta Sankardeva International Auditorium. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from a large number of students representing various colleges and universities across the state.
The programme, the first of its kind in Assam, was inaugurated by Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary and featured Gujarat Legislative Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary as the Chief Guest. Gauhati University Vice Chancellor Dr. Nani Gopal Mahanta graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.
Speaker Daimary, in his inaugural address, highlighted the importance of engaging youth in the democratic process and familiarizing them with legislative procedures. Dr. Mahanta praised the Speaker’s leadership in initiating such a meaningful platform and traced the legislative evolution of Assam from 1913 to the present, offering students valuable insights into parliamentary functions.
In his address, Gujarat Speaker Shankar Chaudhary emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of building a ‘New India’ with youth at the forefront. He urged students not to remain passive observers but to become active participants in the democratic process, even encouraging them to aspire to become public representatives. He also proposed that Assam students be facilitated to visit the Gujarat Legislative Assembly for a firsthand experience of its operations, stated a press release.
