300th birth anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar

Guwahati: In a significant announcement aligning with nationwide celebrations, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh, declared that the 300th birth anniversary of revered Maratha queen and social reformer Ahilyabai Holkar will be commemorated across all districts of Assam from May 21 to May 31.

The announcement was made during a workshop organized at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan, the party’s state headquarters in Basistha, Guwahati. The session was chaired by State BJP president Dilip Saikia and attended by prominent leaders including BJP national joint general secretary Shiv Prakash, Rashtra Sevika Samiti senior member Rimki Bhagawati, Guwahati MP Bijuli Kalita Medhi, state organizing general secretary G.R. Ravindra Raju, and state vice president Rekharani Das Boro, among others.

In an official statement issued from the party’s state headquarters, BJP spokesperson Ranjib Kumar Sharma informed the media that a wide range of district-level programmes will be organized across Assam from May 21 to May 31, to honour the life, values, and legacy of Punyashlok Ahilyabai Holkar. “Revered for her enlightened governance, social reforms, inclusive development initiatives, and the restoration of iconic pilgrimage sites such as Kashi Vishwanath and Somnath, Ahilyabai Holkar’s contributions continue to illuminate Indian history with pride and reverence,” he added.

Addressing over a hundred party karyakartas from across the state, state president Dilip Saikia hailed Ahilyabai Holkar as a paragon of virtuous leadership and selfless service to the nation.  “Among the most revered women who dedicated their lives in service to Mother India, Ahilyabai Holkar stands as a symbol of enlightened governance. Her judicious administration, moral courage, and deep spiritual devotion laid the foundation for a unique legacy of temple restoration, social reform, and the empowerment of women,” he remarked.

He further highlighted her contributions to India’s civilization and cultural heritage, including the construction and rejuvenation of temples, dharamshalas, riverfront ghats, and promotion of education, including many other efforts that have left an indelible mark on society.
