DHEKIAJULI: In a major breakthrough in an ongoing investigation into a gold-theft case, the Basistha Police of Guwahati arrested Mithun Dey, a prominent Bajrang Dal leader from Thelamara, near Dhekiajuli, on Thursday night. The arrest has sparked a wave of controversy and shock in Dhekiajuli and the surrounding areas. The arrest followed crucial leads obtained during the interrogation of a recently apprehended thief identified as Noor, who had earlier been taken into custody for his involvement in a series of thefts across Greater Guwahati. According to police sources, Noor disclosed vital information during interrogation that led authorities to the residence of Mithun Dey in Thelamara. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, Basistha Police launched a search operation at Dey’s house, where they recovered a significant quantity of stolen gold. Following the recovery, Mithun Dey was immediately arrested and taken to Guwahati for further questioning.
He is currently being held at Basistha Police Station, where investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of his involvement and to explore potential links to a wider criminal network.
The arrest has caused a major stir in the region, particularly due to Dey’s association with the Bajrang Dal. Local residents and political observers are closely monitoring the case as it continues to unfold.
