GUWAHATI: The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration), Police Commissionerate, Guwahati, Imdad Ali, has issued an order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, to restrict all types of processions within Guwahati City.

The decision comes in light of the ongoing traffic congestion caused by processions, which disrupt the free flow of vehicles and cause inconvenience to commuters.

The order aims to ensure smooth traffic movement, prevent crowding, and avoid delays in emergency services, which are vital for public safety. The restrictions will be enforced with immediate effect. Violating this order may lead to punishment under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

Citizens who are affected by the order can file a written objection for its cancellation or modification. The order was issued on 10th February 2025.

Last month, in a significant clean-up operation, Guwahati Traffic Police removed 174 abandoned or unattended vehicles from various city streets over the past few days. The seized vehicles were either returned to their owners, sent to garages, recovered as stolen vehicles, or placed in designated parking spaces.

The drive aims to ease traffic congestion, improve road safety, and ensure smooth traffic flow. Authorities have urged vehicle owners not to leave their vehicles unattended, as it disrupts traffic and poses security risks.
