Guwahati: After the appointment of Gaurav Gogoi as the new president of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), the former president Bhupen Borah congratulated Gaurav Gogoi and also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to AICC leaders for giving him the opportunity to serve as the president of the state Congress party in the preceding term.

In his X handle, Borah said, “I express my heartfelt gratitude to President Kharge, LOP Rahul Gandhi ji, and GS AICC (Org) K. C. Venugopal for entrusting me with the responsibility of serving as APCC president for nearly four years, beyond the usual tenure of three years. I sincerely thank each and every party worker who stood by me and supported the party throughout my tenure. I remain committed to upholding the cherished principles of our party and to work for the welfare of the people of Assam. I extend my best wishes to the new APCC president, GauravGogoi as he takes on this important responsibility.”

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Bobbeeta Sharma announced her resignation from all her political posts within the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Sunday, citing personal reasons. In a press statement, Sharma expressed her gratitude to leaders of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and APCC for the opportunities given to her to serve the people of Assam through the Indian National Congress.

Sharma also extended her best wishes to the newly appointed APCC President, Gaurav Gogoi, and his team, hoping they would lead the party towards a rejuvenated future. “I wish Gaurav Gogoi and his team all the best and hope they will be able to steer the party towards a better future, cleansing it from within,” she said.

Sharma pointed out that the APCC had submitted the Panchayat Elections Enquiry Committee Report to the AICC under the chairmanship of former MP and former APCC President Paban Singh Ghatowar, with former MP R P Sharmah and herself as members. She expressed hope that the committee’s recommendations would be implemented in both letter and spirit for the party’s betterment.
