GUWAHATI: Under the aegis of Srimantapur, Chilarai Nagar, and Bhangagarh, a Bohag Bihu Sanmilani was organized at Srimantapur Primary School premises on Friday. The event began with the flag hoisting and memorial tribute ceremony at 9:00 am, led by the president of the Bihu Committee, Santosh Das. A minute of silence was observed in memory of those who lost their lives in Pahalgam.
The festival featured various events, including a felicitation ceremony for distinguished individuals of the area with Jaapi. At 10 am, the Rupahi Assam Bihu team performed a Bihu dance. This was followed by a game and amusement competition and prize distribution ceremony at 10:30 am. In the evening, a competition was held for singing songs in the style of Dr Bhupen Hazarika and Jayanta Hazarika, as well as a dance competition based on Assamese songs. The prizes were distributed to the winners. The evening programme began with the lighting of lamps and the inauguration of the cultural event by chief guest Bijuli Kalita Medhi.
The event featured various cultural performances, including a group song by local female artists at 7:30 pm, followed by a dance performance by the first winner of the dance competition and a song performance by the first winner of the song competition. Other performances included modern dance by Gunjan Talukdar at 7:55 pm and a solo Bihu dance by Nayanmoni Baruah at 8:05 pm.
The event concluded with performances by Delight Chan Doukai at 10 pm and Tezpuriya Thech Pian’s cultural programme at 11:15 pm. The festival ended with a performance by popular singer Jublee Baruah at 12:30 am.
