
GUWAHATI: The Brahmaputra Board, under the Ministry of Jal Shakti’s Department of Water Resources, marked its 44th Foundation Day with a series of vibrant events at its Guwahati office on Saturday. The celebrations began with a departmental flag-hoisting ceremony, followed by a technical session focused on the theme “Reinventing Brahmaputra Board.”
The panel discussion during the technical session was chaired by Kushvinder Vohra, former Chairman of the Central Water Commission. Distinguished panelists included Dr. Ranbir Singh, chairman of the Brahmaputra Board, and Srinivas Chokkakula, president & chief executive of the Centre for Policy Research. The session featured discussions on the Board’s 43-year journey, challenges encountered over the years, strategic planning for the future, and proposed reforms in manpower development and recruitment processes.
The General Session of the day was attended by Padma Shri awardee Sarbeswar Basumatary as the chief guest. Gyanendra Pratap Singh, Director General of Police (DGP), Assam; Kushvinder Vohra; and Srinivas Chokkakula also participated as guests of honour. The session saw active participation from retired and current employees of the Board, along with their families, highlighting the strong sense of community within the organization. In their addresses, the Chief Guest and Guests of Honour praised the Board’s efforts and expressed optimism about its ability to fulfil its mandate and cater to the aspirations of the water sector in the North-Eastern Region. The celebrations concluded with a lively cultural programme that showcased the rich heritage of the region’s diverse ethnic groups, stated a press release.
