Guwahati: Casino-style gambling, typically associated with high-end foreign resorts, has now made its way into Guwahati’s outskirts, raising alarm among law enforcement agencies. In a major crackdown, Guwahati Police raided Club Nirvana Resort in Sonapur on Monday night and busted an illegal gambling operation involving games modelled on international casinos. Four individuals from Mizoram have been apprehended in connection with the case.

According to DCP (East) Mrinal Deka, the raid was carried out following a specific tip-off about gambling activities being conducted within the resort premises. A team from Sonapur Police Station, led by the Officer-in-Charge, launched the operation on Tuesday morning. During the raid, the police apprehended four individuals from Mizoram who were allegedly running or participating in the gambling activities.

Those arrested have been identified are Lalchhanhima Sailo (35), Lalfakawma Ralte (28), Lalrinngheta (35), Joseph Lalparmawia (28), all from Aizawl.

All four were reportedly staying at the resort for the past 2–3 days. During the search, police recovered a substantial amount of cash, alcohol, and casino games related equipments. All mobile phones of the accused were also seized for further analysis.

In addition to the four arrested, three other individuals have been detained for questioning. Police officials confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and more arrests or revelations may follow based on the digital data recovered from the seized mobile devices. Further legal proceedings are underway.
