Guwahati: The Fire and Emergency Services, Assam, sealed M/S Landmark Hotel, located on Dr. B. Baruah Road, Guwahati, on Friday night.

Earlier, the Fire and Emergency Services had ordered the hotel to vacate the premises by Friday at 5 p.m. following serious violations of fire safety norms. According to an official notice issued by the department, a fire safety inspection conducted on March 19 and March 21, 2025, revealed several critical shortcomings in the hotel’s fire prevention and life safety measures. Subsequently, the hotel management was served a notice on April 5, 2025, under Rule 6 of the Assam Fire Service Rules, 1989, instructing them to rectify the deficiencies within seven days. In response, the hotel’s authorized signatory submitted an application on April 10, 2025, requesting an additional 30 days to comply with the necessary safety measures. However, after careful consideration, the authorities rejected the request, citing the risks posed to the lives and property of the occupants.

Citing Rule 7 of the Assam Fire Service Rules, 1989, the department ordered the immediate removal of all persons from the premises on Friday. It warned that failure to comply would lead to legal action, including sealing of the hotel. The Landmark Hotel, a G+4 storeyed building, is a well-known hospitality establishment in the city. Its closure is likely to impact both its guests and operations until all mandated fire safety requirements are fulfilled.
