Guwahati: As Independence Day approaches, Guwahati Police have geared up their security preparedness with late-night naka checking and the establishment of multiple naka check posts across the city. The heightened security drive aims to ensure a safe and peaceful environment ahead of the August 15 celebrations.

Police teams carried out surprise inspections in several key areas, including the high-security zone in front of the Assam Secretariat. Vehicles and surrounding areas were thoroughly checked to detect any suspicious items or movements.

“These are preventive measures. We’re leaving no stone unturned to maintain peace and order during the Independence Day celebrations,” said a senior police official.

The police have ramped up surveillance in sensitive zones by deploying additional forces and intensifying night patrols. Special emphasis has been laid on random checks at strategic points across the city.

City police have also appealed to the public to extend cooperation during these drives. “We request citizens to remain alert and report any suspicious activity immediately. Your support is crucial in ensuring a safe and secure atmosphere,” the official added.
