
GUWAHATI: In a shocking incident, a young girl and a married woman have gone missing under mysterious circumstances in Chandrapur which is located on the outskirts of Guwahati. This has raised serious concerns of human trafficking.
The missing persons have been identified as Monalisa Nath, a Higher Secondary first-year student and Babita Barman, a mother of a three-year-old child.
Their families have said that the duo were allegedly lured with false promises by a broker, who they suspect took the girl and the women to Mumbai. The family members have speculated that it could be a case of human trafficking.
Pragjyotishpur Police have been informed about this incident, prompting an immediate investigation into the matter. It has also been learnt that Monalisa Nath was supposed to appear for her examinations tomorrow, thereby making things worse.
Meanwhile, in a similar instance, a 16-year-old girl who had been missing from the Nalapara area since February 28 was safely rescued by a team from Basistha Police Station.
According to police sources, the rescue operation was carried out following intensive efforts to trace the girl’s whereabouts. She was reunited with her family.
