
GUWAHATI: Cotton University celebrated its foundation day at the Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha Auditorium today. The highlight of the event was the Foundation Day lecture, which was delivered by the Vice Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University, Prof. Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit.
Minister of Education, Government of Assam, Dr Ranoj Pegu; Member of Parliament, Guwahati Lok Sabha Constituency, Bijulee Kalita Medhi; Vice Chancellor of Cotton University Prof. Ramesh Ch. Deka; and the Registrar of Cotton University, Dr Arindam Garg, were also present on the dais.
While delivering her lecture on the topic ‘Empowering Educators – Charting New Frontiers in Academia’, Vice Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University, Prof. Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit, emphasised the enduring and evolving role of teachers in an age of rapid technological advancement, including artificial intelligence. She also underscored the vital need for educators not just to prepare students to be job seekers but to empower them to become job givers — innovators and leaders in their own right.
Congratulating the institution, Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu emphasised the need to focus on creating a generation of students who are not only academically sound but also highly skilled and employable in today’s dynamic market.
MP Bijulee Kalita Medhi paid heartfelt tributes to generations of Cottonians, faculty members, and staff for their invaluable contributions in shaping Cotton University into a premier institution of learning and excellence.
During his inaugural address, Vice Chancellor of Cotton University, Prof Ramesh Ch. Deka, highlighted the significant achievements made by the varsity in recent years, including the PAIR (Partnerships for Accelerated Innovation and Research) grant of Rs 14 crore by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation, a press release said.
