GUWAHATI: Guwahati police intensified their efforts against criminal activities, leading to multiple arrests and significant recoveries across different locations. From apprehending notorious burglars and mobile snatchers to raiding scrapyards dealing in stolen goods, the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) and Central Guwahati Police District (CGPD) took decisive action against offenders.
A team from Basistha Police Station apprehended a burglar, Krishna Bahadur Chetri (37) of Diphu, in connection with a theft case at Beharbari. The police seized a set of burglary tools, including a combination plier, a hammer, and a round bolt spanner.
In another operation, the EGPD team from Bhangagarh Police Station arrested two mobile snatchers involved in stealing mobile phones. The accused, identified as Abhijit Rabha (23) and Rahul Das (20), were found in possession of a stolen Narzo mobile phone and a Honda Dio scooter (AS 01 FS 6510).
The Basistha Police Station team raided a scrapyard at 8 Mile near Hanuman Mandir, leading to the recovery of various suspected stolen goods. Among the items recovered were a Kutchina kitchen chimney, a 6 kg PVC electric wire, a 12V Amaron battery, a Singer tailor sewing machine, bike chain and sprocket parts, and bathroom fittings such as showers and taps. The scrapyard owner, Tazimul Ali (26), has been taken into custody.
Meanwhile, in another significant operation by the Bhangagarh Police Station Traffic Team led to the arrest of a seasoned mobile lifter, Alisha Begam alias Purnima Chetry (22) of Chandmari. She was caught with four stolen mobile phones—Infinix, Vivo, Samsung, and Realme—along with a yellow handbag.
