Guwahati: The Career Counselling and Placement Cell of Dispur College (CCPC-DC), in collaboration with the 48 Assam Naval Unit NCC (48 ANU NCC-DC), organized a career guidance talk titled “Indian Police Service: EkSeva – How & Why to Join” under the Udyam–II Series of its Domain-Oriented Career Guidance Programme. The event was held on Wednesday at the college premises.
The programme was conducted in two sessions, beginning with an award-cum-felicitation ceremony as the opening session. Distinguished guests graced the dais, including Dr. Partha Sarathi Mahanta, IPS – Commissioner of Police, Guwahati & IGP (STF/BIEO/Traffic & Road Safety), Assam – as the chief guest, and Lt Cdr Debanand Doley, Commanding Officer of the 48 Assam Naval Unit NCC – as the guest of honour. Dr. Navajyoti Borah, Principal of Dispur College, was also present alongside Pran Pratim Chaliha, Secretary of the Assam Woodball Association, who was invited as a special guest.
During his address, Dr. Borah acknowledged the forthcoming completion of Lt Cdr Doley’s tenure in May 2025, and lauded his dedicated contributions to the development of the college’s NCC unit. Lt Cdr Doley, in his farewell-cum-speech, reflected on his journey with the NCC unit of the college, describing it as a dynamic force of youth. He applauded the leadership of the CTOs from 2023 to 2025 and praised the cadets for their outstanding performance – with 21 out of 22 securing ‘A’ grades.
The technical session that followed featured Dr. P.S. Mahanta, IPS, as the resource person. In a powerful and motivational lecture, he emphasized the importance of multi-skill development and the evolving role of police services in contemporary times. Highlighting the Indian Police Service as a career of service and responsibility, he encouraged the students and NCC cadets to engage in experiential learning and see the NCC as a gateway to prestigious public service careers. He underlined the significance of volunteerism and adaptability in serving the nation through such roles.
The programme concluded on an inspiring note, leaving the students and cadets with insights into the dedication and purpose required to pursue a career in the Indian Police Service.
