GUWAHATI: A sudden dust storm swept through Guwahati on Thursday afternoon, reducing visibility across several parts of the city and causing temporary disruption to daily activities. The storm occurred shortly after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a weather warning predicting thunderstorms, surface winds, and light to moderate rainfall for the day.
According to the IMD, shifting wind patterns and atmospheric instability led to the adverse weather conditions. The advisory had cautioned residents about potential gusty winds and urged them to take necessary precautions.
The dust storm began around 12:30 pm, blanketing large portions of the city in thick dust. Areas with ongoing construction activities were particularly affected, and traffic in some zones experienced brief disruptions due to low visibility. Commuters and pedestrians faced difficulties navigating through the swirling dust, while many sought shelter indoors.
Although no major damage or casualties have been reported so far, authorities are closely monitoring the situation. Citizens, especially those with respiratory conditions or allergies, have been advised to stay indoors and avoid exposure to dust.
