GUWAHATI: The Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell arrested Dr. Mridupaban Nath, a former associate professor at Diphu Medical College, in Guwahati on Tuesday in connection with a disproportionate asset case. Dr. Nath was taken into custody in Bhangagarh area, following a long investigation. The CM’s SVC registered a case (08/24) against him for accumulating disproportionate assets, calculating around 181 percent.
Earlier, during a raid at his residence, the sleuth seized an amount of several lakhs and also seized an Audi vehicle bearing registration number AS25 F8931, belonging to Dr. Nath.
The Assam Council of Medical Registration had revoked his medical license on July 22 last year, prohibiting him from practicing medicine. However, an allegation against Dr. Nath continued to provide medical services at a private healthcare facility in Guwahati.
Dr. Nath’s troubles deepened when his first wife filed a case against him at the Bhangagarh police station, accusing him of entering into a second marriage without legally divorcing her. Dr. Nath has multiple allegations against him besides accumulating disproportionate assets and bigamy, tempering the post-mortem report, forging a signature, etc.
This is not his first brush with the law, as he was previously arrested in connection with case number 232/2024 registered at the Mangaldoi police station.
