Guwahati: In a bid to address persistent civic problems and strengthen urban governance, Dr. M.S. Lakshmi Priya, (IAS), Commissioner of Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), conducted a detailed field inspection of Ward No. 1 and Ward No. 2 on Tuesday. She was accompanied by respective ward councilors, Hukum Shan Ali Boxi and Mukul Kalita during the visit.

The inspection primarily focused on three core areas: the frequency and effectiveness of door-to-door garbage collection by designated agencies, maintenance and sweeping of bye-lanes, and the recurring issue of artificial flooding caused by clogged or poorly designed drainage systems.

During the visit, Commissioner Dr. Lakshmi Priya interacted with local residents, took stock of sanitation and drainage issues, and reviewed the ground-level performance of waste management services. She stressed the importance of coordination between field workers and waste collection agencies to ensure timely garbage clearance and a cleaner environment.

Special attention was paid to the issue of artificial flooding, particularly during the monsoon. Drains blocked by silt and garbage were identified as a major concern. The Commissioner issued immediate directives for the cleaning of clogged drains and asked officials to assess the current drainage infrastructure for necessary redesigns or upgrades.

Reaffirming GMC's commitment to improved civic services, Dr. Lakshmi Priya stated, "GMC is determined to resolve long-standing civic issues by improving operational efficiency and engaging more closely with residents. A cleaner, flood-resilient Guwahati is a priority."
