Guwahati: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has intensified its crackdown on rule violators, imposing hefty fines on individuals and businesses that fail to comply with civic regulations. Despite repeated warnings and stringent penalties, many residents and establishments continue to neglect their responsibilities, prompting the authorities to take strict action.
In a significant move, the GMC has issued penalty tickets amounting to Rs 1.3 lakh in a single day. A resident of Paltan Bazar was fined Rs 80,000 for dumping garbage on the road, while a well-known shopping mall on G.S. Road faced a heavy penalty of Rs 50,000 for operating without a valid trade license.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining cleanliness and ensuring regulatory compliance across the city. The GMC has warned that such violations will not be tolerated and urged both individuals and businesses to adhere to civic rules to avoid facing penalties.
With increasing urbanization and rapid development, the issue of civic responsibility remains a major challenge. The municipal body has emphasized that maintaining cleanliness is a collective duty and that strict enforcement will continue against those who flout the rules. The GMC has also called on citizens to cooperate and be more mindful of their actions, as such measures are essential for keeping Guwahati clean and organized.
