GUWAHATI: In a major step towards strengthening urban governance, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Praja Foundation, a non-profit organization known for its work in promoting accountable urban governance across India.

The partnership aims to enhance the capacity of GMC’s elected representatives and officials, focusing on key domains such as accounting, e-governance, and financial planning. The initiative is expected to pave the way for more transparent, efficient, and citizen-centric governance in Assam’s largest urban centre.

Speaking on the occasion, senior officials from GMC emphasized the importance of continuous skill development and modernization in municipal functioning. “This collaboration will provide technical support and training modules that will equip our teams to better serve the people of Guwahati,” a GMC spokesperson said.

Praja Foundation representatives highlighted that the MoU will facilitate knowledge exchange, implementation of best practices, and the development of institutional frameworks for improved service delivery and public accountability.

The move comes at a time when urban local bodies across India are increasingly focusing on building administrative capacity and leveraging technology to meet the growing needs of urban populations. This MoU marks a significant step in empowering Guwahati’s municipal leadership and workforce to deliver on its vision for a progressive and responsive city.
