GUWAHATI: In a move to spread awareness about autism and highlight the importance of inclusivity for divyangjans, Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya visited the ASHA School today at 51 Sub Area in Narangi.

ASHA School is a noble endeavour run by the Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) where children with special needs (Divyangjan) are taught to enable them to lead a normal life.

The governor, during his visit, also inaugurated the Hydrotherapy Complex at the ASHA Rehabilitation Centre in the school’s complex in Narangi Military Station.

The governor’s visit was in line with the global observance of World Autism Awareness Day on April 2nd, which serves as an important occasion to honour the achievements and potential of children affected by autism. Governor Acharya emphasized the importance of providing these children with all the opportunities they deserve.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Acharya expressed his admiration for the school administration and its commitment to the welfare and development of specially-abled children. He stated, “We are all children of God. We do not have control over the circumstances of our birth. Hence, we must embrace everyone with empathy and equality. In Indian culture, the spirit of service is held in the highest esteem, and it is our collective duty to contribute to society’s well-being.”

The governor further urged everyone to embrace the Indian philosophy of “Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah, Sarve Santu Niramayah”, emphasizing that a thriving society is one that uplifts all its sons and daughters, regardless of their challenges.

Governor Acharya praised the tireless efforts of the army officers and teachers who work selflessly to provide quality care and support to the children. “I am truly moved by the dedication and compassion shown by the staff and administration here at ASHA School. The school’s efforts are transforming lives and creating a more inclusive society. With the right resources and support, every child can thrive, and ASHA School is a testament to this belief,” said the governor, stated a press release.
