Guwahati: In a major crackdown on illegal liquor trade, two separate operations carried out by the city police from Basistha Police Station resulted in the destruction and seizure of a significant quantity of illicit alcohol.

In the first operation, the police team destroyed 50 litres of country-made liquor and seized 31 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and country liquor during a raid.  In a separate raid at the Lalmati area, another team from Basistha police station busted a hideout used for storing illicit country liquor and destroyed more than 40 litres of the substance on the spot.

Police officials confirmed that further investigation is underway to trace the source and those involved in the illegal trade.
