Guwahati: ‘Jalsa’ Celebrates Indian Classical Music at Vivekananda Kendra in Uzanbazar

Guwahati: Pratishruti Foundation, in collaboration with Star Cement Pvt. Ltd., Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), and State Bank of India, celebrated its Foundation Day with a grand classical music concert titled “Jalsa” at Vivekananda Kendra in Uzanbazar, on Saturday.

The event commenced at 5:30 pm with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by distinguished guests including Anand Kumar, Programme Officer of ICCR; veteran musician Pandit Sukumar Barthakur; Arup Mishra, Director of Production, Doordarshan Assam; and senior musician Shantanu Biswas. The inauguration was followed by a soulful rendition of Saraswati Vandana by Trinayan Goswami.

In his welcome address, Pratishruti Foundation President Siddhartha Das highlighted the organization’s vision and called upon the Government of Assam to extend equal financial support to Indian classical music, which he said has been overlooked in recent times compared to other forms of performing arts.

As part of the celebration, the Foundation felicitated Jogen Das from Simla for his significant contributions to Indian classical music and the arts in Baksa district. The executive members of Pratishruti Foundation were also recognized for their dedicated service since the organization’s inception.

The musical performances began with a devotional song by the students of Riyaz Zone, directed by Guru Prabal Deka with tabla accompaniment by Subrata Chakrabarty. A captivating tabla solo by young talent Prantik Phukan followed, accompanied on harmonium by Hirak Jyoti Das of Down Town University. Violinist Sanjukta Phukan then enthralled the audience with her performance of Raag Desh, supported ably on tabla by Tultul Das.

The evening concluded with a mesmerizing vocal recital by renowned classical vocalist Dr. Rabindra Bharali, Associate Professor at Tripura University. His performance featured Raag Miyan ki Malhar and Raag Gaud Malhar, accompanied on tabla by Dibyajyoti Changmai and on harmonium by Prabal Deka.
