Guwahati: Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU) on Sunday organized the 11th edition of the Krishna Kanta Handiqui Memorial Lecture at its City Campus in Khanapara to commemorate the birth anniversary of the eminent scholar, linguist, and Indologist, Prof. Krishna Kanta Handiqui.

The event began with a floral tribute to Prof. Handiqui’s statue, followed by the University Anthem and ceremonial lighting of the lamp, setting a reflective and respectful tone for the day.

Prof. Prasenjit Das, Director of the Padmanath Gohainbaruah School of Humanities and Chairperson of the Organising Committee, delivered the Welcome Address. He emphasized the continued relevance of Prof. Handiqui’s intellectual legacy in shaping contemporary higher education.

The memorial lecture was delivered by Prof. Pradip Jyoti Mahanta, a distinguished academician and scholar, on the theme “Krishna Kanta Handiqui, Cultural History and Heritage: A Few Perspectives.” In his thought-provoking address, Prof. Mahanta explored Handiqui’s deep association with classical traditions, his pioneering role in comparative literature, and the importance of preserving indigenous knowledge systems.

In his Presidential Address, KKHSOU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajendra Prasad Das paid homage to Prof. Handiqui’s scholarly brilliance and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to upholding his values through academic excellence and cultural engagement.
