Guwahati: In a significant initiative aimed at reinforcing learner support services, Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU) organized a Stakeholders’ Workshop on Management of Study Centres at its City Campus in Khanapara on Sunday. The day-long workshop brought together over 100 Centre-in-Charges and Coordinators from Study Centres across 12 districts of Assam.

The workshop, led by the Office of the Dean (Study Centre), served as a platform for in-depth deliberations on regulatory frameworks, management strategies, and digital integration to enhance the functioning of Study Centres. A major focus was placed on the University’s digital University Management System (UMS), which aims to streamline academic, administrative, and learner services.

Inaugurating the workshop, Prof. Pranab Saikia, Dean, Study Centre, reiterated the role of Study Centres in promoting access, equity, and quality in higher education. He stressed the need for continuous communication and localized support to fulfill the University’s inclusive vision.

A key highlight was the presence of Vinod Singh Yadav, Deputy Secretary, UGC, New Delhi, who addressed the gathering. Emphasizing the importance of learner engagement, Yadav advocated for the integration of alumni networks and career development support for Open and Distance Learning (ODL) students to boost employability.

Speaking on the future of digital education, Prof. Joydeep Baruah, Chairman of the Admission Committee, introduced the UMS as a centralized digital tool developed by KKHSOU to enhance institutional efficiency.

Delivering the keynote address, Prof. R. P. Das, Vice Chancellor, KKHSOU, urged Study Centres to play a proactive role in increasing Assam’s Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER). “Study Centres must become engines of social equity and progress,” he stated, underlining the transformative power of education in reaching underserved communities.

Interactive sessions facilitated candid exchanges between University officials and ground-level stakeholders, addressing administrative, academic, examination, and financial concerns.
