Nilay Kumar’s name had emerged during the initial stages of the probe after a suicide note was recovered from Hazarika, who died by suicide on June 21. The suicide note said that Hazarika was subjected to severe mental harassment.

Acting on a complaint filed by Hazarika’s family at Dispur police station alleging that three individuals – Ankit Agarwal, Nilay Kumar, and Bikash Sisodia harassed Hazarika continuously. Dispur Police earlier arrested Ankit Agarwal. With Nilay Kumar now in custody, the search is on for the third accused, Bikash Sisodia.

Sources from the investigation team said Nilay Kumar had been under the scanner ever since his name surfaced in the note and subsequent complaint.
