GUWAHATI: The students of Maria's Public School staged a musical play going by the name of 'Moulin Rouge' at ITA Machkhowa in Guwahati on January 22 and 23, 2025.

Produced by Nellie Ahmed, the Founder and Managing Trustee, Maria's Public School with special support from Mausumi Mahanta, the Principal, the student performers brought alive the scenes of a true story upholding the Bohemian ideals of freedom, beauty, truth and true love directed by Norbu Tshering and assisted by Sonal Vohra.

Vernan Mahanta, Khushi Basfor, Kenneth Das, Manjisha Choudhury, Arihana Medhi, Wadia Choudhury, Aadriti P. Gogoi, Apratim Thakuria, Hemraj Das and Riona Nath Taro played the lead roles while a host of students from Class 5 onwards participated in drama and dance.

With Nandita Baruah as Production Coordinator, Jabeen Sharma Pathak as mentor of voice-over and Dr Biswajit De at Production Design, the students rehearsed tirelessly, even during the winter vacation, pouring their energy and passion into this production. Their enthusiasm has been truly inspiring making this musical as a performance to remember.

In the words of Nellie Ahmed, the Founder and Managing Trustee, "Theatres and musicals have been a part and parcel of Marian curriculum, an integral part of our vision 'Learning Beyond the Classroom' as we believe that the overall holistic development is possible only when we instill values which are derived from areas beyond the four walls of a classroom. Our experience from the past endeavours tells us that children become more confident and their communication skill, social skills, emotional intelligence, team spirit and time management skills improve through their participation in live performances. They also find a platform to hone and showcase their creativity which enhances their cultural understanding and memory. They also become more aware about their interest and talent which pave a way for their future pursuits."
