GUWAHATI: A heartwarming and insightful Mental Health Camp, modeled as a Support Circle, was recently held at Amar Ghar Old Age Home. This enriching program was facilitated by renowned mental wellness advocate Ankita Kakoti, who guided participants through meaningful reflections on leading a purposeful life in old age.

The camp was organized by Sampoorna Deepjyoti India Foundation, under the leadership of Tarana Garg, the visionary founder of the organization, and coordinated by Program Director Amrita Borkotoky. The initiative aimed to promote emotional well-being and foster a sense of belonging and self-worth among the elderly residents.

Kakoti led an engaging session where she encouraged the residents to reflect on their life journeys, share their personal stories, and recognize their evolution over the years. The session became a deeply moving space for empathy, connection, and self-expression.

A special creative activity added a joyful and introspective touch—participants were invited to visualize and express who they would like to be in a parallel life through drawings and short writings. The residents enthusiastically participated, creating heartfelt and colorful representations of their dreams, talents, and unfulfilled desires. These expressions opened a beautiful window into their inner world and highlighted the importance of continuous imagination and self-identity, regardless of age.

Speaking at the event, Tarana Garg emphasized the organization’s commitment to elderly care and mental health. “Our NGO is dedicated to enriching the lives of senior citizens. We aspire to conduct more recreational activities and introduce structured geriatric counseling across old age homes in Guwahati,” she stated.

This initiative by Sampoorna Deepjyoti India Foundation stands as a testament to the importance of emotional care and purposeful living for the elderly. It also reinforces the belief that aging gracefully includes mental and emotional support, community interaction, and the freedom to dream even at 80.
