GUWAHATI: Guwahati missed out on the prestigious Indian Smart City Award (ISCA) bestowed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) as part of the Smart Cities Mission, whereas Kohima (Nagaland) and Namchi (Sikkim) emerged victorious in the Zonal Smart City Award (Northeast Zone) division.
An official said, “Guwahati was defeated due to the delay in its completion of the various projects. Even the Integrated Traffic Management Project, which stated to complete by March 2023 remains unfinished. Apart from other initiatives like water ATMs, bio-toilets, and other significant projects are yet to be completed.
Guwahati was one of the first 20 cities chosen to be transformed into smart cities, which are intended to improve essential infrastructure, promote sustainability, and increase the quality of life for residents through intelligent solutions. However, the city’s advancement was hampered by setbacks brought on by project delays and non-completion.
