Guwahati: In a decisive move towards urban renewal and public safety, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) on Tuesday conducted an eviction drive near Byelane No. 3 at Kedar Road, under the AT Road flyover. The drive, led by GMC Ward No. 15 Councillor Saurav Jhunjhunwala, addressed the long-standing grievances of local residents who had raised concerns over illegal encroachments and the rise of anti-social activities in the area.
During the operation, GMC officials dismantled an illegal scrapyard that had taken over public space. Five beggars were also rescued and relocated as part of a wider rehabilitation effort in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare.
The eviction was carried out with the support of Bharalumukh Police and the Social Welfare Department. Deputy Enforcement Officer Munidra Mahanta and Santosh Kutum from the Social Welfare Department played key roles in the successful execution of the drive.
