GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation will soon form a Task Force to tackle property tax defaulters within its area of jurisdiction.

The Task Force will comprise six teams of the six divisions of the GMC.

According to GMC sources, owners of many private and commercial buildings have not being paying their property tax regularly, resulting in huge loss of revenue for the GMC.

GMC Commissioner Devasish Sharma said that the highest annual revenue collection made by the GMC was Rs 120 crore. "This is pitiful compared to the size of this big metropolis," he said.

Sharma said that the motive behind formation of the Task Force is streamlining revenue collection and it has been asked to take stern action against tax defaulters.
