GUWAHATI: The indefinite agitation by the New Engineering and Polytechnic Faculty Association of Assam (NEPFAA) in front of the Directorate of Technical Education, Kahilipara, in Guwahati entered the tenth day today.
The association has been seeking urgent attention to several pressing issues affecting new engineering and polytechnic faculty members appointed since 2017. The association that represents faculties recruited by the Directorate of Technical Education has raised concerns about job security, pay discrepancies, pending salaries, and violations of cabinet decisions.
According to the association, the lack of job security has created an environment of uncertainty and fear among faculty members, impacting their performance and morale. The association has also brought up pay differences, such as the fact that faculty members appointed under 3(f) status on January 22, 2025 (e-file nos. 443823/19 for Assistant Professors and 443823/20 for Lecturers) are being paid on a per-hour basis (Rs. 1000/hr for Assistant Professors, Rs. 900/hr for Lecturers), whereas those appointed earlier were granted scale pay as per the Cabinet Decision dated September 24, 2024.
