Guwahati: Newborn baby girl sold, case under investigation

GUWAHATI: Bhangagarh police have been investigating a case of parents selling a newborn baby girl to a childless couple for Rs 2 lakh in the vicinity of the GMCH (Gauhati Medical College and Hospital).

According to sources, the parents considered the baby girl unwanted for them, as they already have two girl children.

The incident that took place on March 30, 2025, first came to the notice of the Child Protection Committee (Shshu Suraksha Committee), which brought it to the notice of the Nalbari Police, as the childless couple who bought the newborn is from Nalbari. Since the incident happened in the vicinity of the GMCH, the case came to the Bhangagarh police.

According to sources, the selling of the baby took place with the mediation of a woman. The Bhangagarh Police apprehended the woman and are interrogating her.

Nalbari police, on the other hand, booked the man who bought the baby and his brother.
