Guwahati: The Assam Legislative Assembly witnessed unprecedented chaos on Monday as Congress and AIUDF MLAs allegedly engaged in aggressive behaviour, drawing sharp criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia condemned the incidents, calling them a serious threat to the state’s democratic proceedings.

According to Saikia, Congress MLA Nurul Huda, who represents Bengali-origin residents, physically attacked the Deputy Speaker Dr. Numal Momin, a representative of indigenous tribal communities. Meanwhile, AIUDF MLAs allegedly stormed the Assembly premises wielding bamboo sticks, further escalating tensions. Addressing the media, Saikia termed the incident a “black mark” in Assam’s legislative history. He warned that such aggressive conduct by Congress and AIUDF MLAs would not be tolerated, emphasizing that the people of Assam were deeply concerned over the developments.

“The assault on an indigenous tribal representative is a grave warning for Assam’s future,” Saikia stated, demanding an immediate investigation and the swift arrest of Congress MLA Nurul Huda. He also urged the Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly to take strict action against AIUDF MLAs involved in the alleged disruption.

The BJP has called for urgent intervention to prevent such incidents from recurring in the state’s legislative process.
